Prof. Keith Engel

Keith joined the SAIT in January 2015 as the Deputy Chief Executive, responsible for advocating the national tax policy agenda from a civil society perspective while also leading the technical team internally in serving the interests of members.
As the former National Treasury Chief Director for Legal Tax Policy design, and most recently a partner in the Africa tax practice of EY, Keith brough with him vast experience from the private and public sector. Notably during his tenure at National Treasury, Keith was instrumental in shaping tax policy design in the years following on the Katz Commission on Inquiry.
Keith obtained his Masters of Laws of Taxation at Georgetown Law, and holds a professional doctorate (J.D) at Georgetown Law. Following graduation, Keith clerked for the Hon. Judge Smith of the U. S. Claims Court, was attorney / advisor to Assistant Chief Counsel (Corporate) of the Internal Revenue Service, and attorney / advisor to Associate Chief Counsel (International)of the Internal Revenue Service. At Washington and Lee School of Law he taught International Income Taxation, Partnership Taxation, Basic Income Taxation, and Corporate Taxation.
